  6. Andrea and Jesus, look at Gabriela´s answer to solve your problem. :) Anyway, you can investigate about the origins of those neighbourhoods, I mean, the historical period when they were developed.

Be careful everybody!! Are you sure Ciudad Vella are the outer suburbs? I don´t agree with you...

But... as I´m so nice, I´ll tell you that the city center is not always located in the physical center of the city...

    Bye!

  8. Marta, have you copied it from Gabriela?? Please, do it by yourselves!
Moreover, there´s a mistake in Gabriela´s answer: The few open spaces that you can find in an irregular layout is a disadvantage, not and advantage.
    See you!

  16. Congratulations!!! You all have done it very well. The most complete answer is Irene´s, so you can see her comment.

Anyway, here you have the solution:

1- SAGRADA FAMILIA : grid plan - It is a type fo plan where the streets
run at right angles to each other.
CIUTAT VELLA: irregular layout- It is a type of plan where the
    streets haven´t got a particular
    order. They are narrow and
    winding.

2- SAGRADA FAMILA: advantages- Every place of the city is connected.
Disadvantage- You can get lost because all
the streets are very similar. There are lots of crossroads, so driving can be slow.

CIUTAT VELLA: Advantages - It´s the old town, where the oldest, historical and most interesting buildings are located.

Disadvantage- It´s difficult to acces to every place of the city quickly. There are few open spaces.

3- SAGRADA FAMILIA: It is typical of new districts of European cities. This neighbourhood was built at the beginning of the XX. They were going to be the houses for those people coming from the country to work in the factories of the city (rural exodus)

CIUTAT VELLA: It is typical of Muslim towns and Medieval towns. This is the oldest part of the city, where you can find the Roman ruins of the first city: Barcino. Moreover, there is also a neolithic necropolis. And of course, it´s also the medieval part of the city, with the Jewish neighbourhood, the cathedral...

    4- SAGRADA FAMILIA: Inner suburbs.
    CIUTAT VELLA: Old town

    ReplyDelete
  17. a) Sagrada familia: grid plan
    Ciutat Vella: irregular layout
    b) Grid plan:
Adventage- It is easy to go to some places
Desadventage- All have the same structure

    Irregular layout:
Adventage- As all the streets are different you can't get lost.
    Desadventage- I don't now

    c) Sagrada familia: It's typical of North American cities.
Ciutat Vella: It's typical of muslm and medieval towns.

    d) Sagrada Familia: Inner suburbs
    Ciutat Vella: Outer suburbs

  18. Pay attention!!! Ciutat Vella is the OLD TOWN, although it is not the physical center of the city!!!
And now, I have a new question for you: Why do you think the firts inhabitants of Barcelona started to settle there?

    ReplyDelete
  19. i think that the first inhabitants of Barcelona started to settel there because there was energy supply, it is defensive site, also there are food supply, water supply and building material... and barcelona is a low and flat land?

    ReplyDelete
  20. It´s a flat land, and it´s next to the sea...

    ReplyDelete
  21. because by that, well more or less, but that was what I wanted to say.
but, this good? or no (not sure)

    Thanks Pilar, Kiss
