International Women's Day: Women in Mathematics

On 8th of March it is celebrated the International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day. It is a day dedicated to focus on women's economic, political and social achievements.

Here, we are going to study the mathematical goals. Did you know that there have been lots of women studying Maths since former times?

The main figures are Teano, Hypatia, Maria Agnesi, Sophie Germain, Ada Lovelace, Emmy Noether, Sofia Kovalevskaia and many others. If you want to find out more information click on the photograph. They had to face many difficulties and restrictions because of their gender. You will discover that we can do anything we want to!

    Hi again. This picture is a very famous image that has been used since de fifties in the feminist movement, to show how women can take roles before considered "male only". She was a real woman called Geraldine Doyle. She worked in a factory during Second World War. What they wanted to show with this image is that women could also help during war times.
