STRING ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS PLACEMENT

Hello guys

Now that you know lots of things about the bowed string instruments, it's time you learnt where they are placed on the stage. Watch this video and then complete this sheet with the required information.
I hope you'll find the activity interesting and entertaining -you know, it's essential for you to get used to listening to different English accents-.
If you click on the picture, you'll hear how a cello sounds.

Have fun
FLOR

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Hello everybody!!!

We're just about to start studying the western musical instruments and the common families they are grouped into. That's why I've prepared an activity for you to do at home. It's all about bowed string instruments, such as the one above, a violin. Click on the image to listen to its timbre. We will be correcting the activity in our class, on Thursday March 24th, with Kate's help.
See you
FLOR

World Poetry Day

Do you remember this poem?

On St. Valentine’s day you showed yourselves to be very good poets. Tomorrow March 21st is the World Poetry Day, and I have thought you could write another poem to celebrate it, perhaps an acrostic. Don’t you know what it is? I leave you an example.

My dear pupils
Are reading this
Good week for everybody
Dublin is waiting
Ana Esther and me

And as I won’t be at the high school this week, I would like to read them here, while we are in Dublin.

Have a good week!

Happy PI day!

Pi Day is a date commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is celebrated on march 14 (or 3/14 in month/day date format), since 3, 1 and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form.

You can even find songs speaking about this magic number. Have you ever heard the theme by Don McLean "American Pie"? Here you have one version, considering that this "PIE" is homophone to our "PI". Listen to it and tell me in your comments...

International Women's Day: Women in Mathematics

On 8th of March it is celebrated the International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day. It is a day dedicated to focus on women's economic, political and social achievements.

Here, we are going to study the mathematical goals. Did you know that there have been lots of women studying Maths since former times?

The main figures are Teano, Hypatia, Maria Agnesi, Sophie Germain, Ada Lovelace, Emmy Noether, Sofia Kovalevskaia and many others. If you want to find out more information click on the photograph. They had to face many difficulties and restrictions because of their gender. You will discover that we can do anything we want to!

Cheers,

ALICIA

SHROVE TUESDAY

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent starts: the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. It's a day of penitence, to clean the soul, and a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins.

Shrove Tuesday is sometimes called Pancake Day after the fried batter recipe traditionally eaten on this day.

But there's more to Shrove Tuesday than pigging out on pancakes or taking part in a public pancake race. The pancakes themselves are part of an ancient custom with deeply religious roots.

If you want to discover more about Shrove Tuesday, please click here.

In general you are so active (I would say that tooooooooo much on Mondays – we´ll talk about it in next class) and in general you usually participate a lot, which is great! You are improving your physical abilities and knowledge; your comprehension level in English and most of you have also improved your ability to communicate in English. Congratulations!!!!!!!

TOBACCO

As I told you in class here you have the power point regarding tobacco. It´s very interesting, and at the end of it you will have de index for the investigative work that you have to do this term. Remember you can do it in groups. Download here.
